What Is A CSA?
Community Supported Agriculture, or CSA, brings consumers and farmers together in a relationship of mutual support. CSA is a social model that connects you to your food, the land, and with those that tend the soil. CSA is an economic model that allows you to place your food dollars directly in the hands of a family farm, with farmers you know. Each member makes a commitment to support the farm throughout the season. In return, members receive a weekly box of fresh produce from late spring though early fall. In effect, the farmer and the members literally share the risks and the rewards of the farm. CSA members will receive the absolute best of the farm’s production.
CSA promotes dialog between farmers and consumers, and encourages a sense of community. Buyers get to see where their food comes from and have a vested interest in the land and the growers. The partnership allows the farmer to provide a wide variety of produce of the highest quality while keeping costs below supermarket prices. Instead of paying for transporting chemically contaminated vegetables an average of 1,500 miles to your plate, you choose to support a local farm, save money, and receive the freshest and most nutritious food available. Hand Sown Homegrown offers you a unique CSA, as we will be providing you with produce from endangered varieties throughout the world. By joining our CSA you allow a family farm to continue sowing these historic seeds on local land in a restorative fashion. In 2009 we are proud to offer a very small and specialized CSA, which focuses on saving seeds and preserving the world’s garden heritage.

Your Food
Our CSA members are going to receive the best quality and selection that our fields provide. Serving you comes before any restaurant or market. Each week from June to mid-October, our CSA members receive a pre-packed box of mixed seasonal heirloom variety vegetables all grown on our farm. You’ll have the chance each week to make a single substitution to your box with one weekly selected crop of our choice. Each week’s delivery yields its own unique harvest.
Each week, along with your produce box, you’ll receive a newsletter detailing select heirloom varieties and how to cook, bake, serve and store all your produce. You’re never left knowing how to use a certain item.

Hand Sown Homegrown has also joined with other local producers and made arrangements to offer their items to you on a week by week basis. The items will be available each week as an additional add-on item to your CSA box.

Add-on List as of 1/13/09 features the products of these local companies: Mt. Townsend Creamery, Grounds for Change Coffee, Steadman Honey, Crimson Cove Smoked Specialties and more on the way!

Farm Events
We encourage and welcome CSA members to their farm for harvest celebrations, tours, and educational workshops to learn and watch their food grow.
